Parque Natural Sierra de Hornachuelos
Andalusia has many conservation areas, but the 600-sq-km area of Parque Natural Sierra de Hornachuelos is one of the best. Only an 80-minute drive away from Seville along the A-4, the park is home to the second-largest colony of black vultures in the region. The wooded forests and river valleys are best explored on foot, while the visitor centre provides information on the various trails to choose from. This is a perfect place to stop for a break and embrace the region’s natural side.
Mérida
Set off early from Seville and drive just under two hours via the E-803 until you reach Mérida, the capital of the Extremadura region. The town is home to more Roman ruins than anywhere else in Spain and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Highlights include an amphitheatre from the 1st century BC, a multi-arched Roman bridge from the same period and a well-curated museum of art and archaeology.
