Drive for approximately one hour and 15 minutes from Ajaccio Airport via the D355 or T40 to visit Filitosa. This intriguing megalithic site in southern Corsica features a collection of Bronze Age menhirs which were discovered in 1946. Some of these have detailed faces and features such as swords and armour, possibly created to commemorate important chieftains. It takes around an hour to explore the hilltop site which includes a museum and ancient quarry.
Corsica Natural Park (Corse Natural Regional Park)
Travelling via the T20 it takes around one hour and 30 minutes to reach Corsica Natural Park. The 350,000-hectare park stretches from Mont Cinto to the Aiguilles de Bavella and encompasses some of the highest mountain peaks in Corsica and a surfeit of plant and forest life. You might even spot wildcats, deer and boar.
Corte
Around 90 minutes' drive from Ajaccio Airport via the T20, Corte is Corsica’s only university town. With a youthful energy, Corte offers numerous active pursuits such as hiking, canyoning and mountain biking. There’s a large museum, Musée de la Corse, to explore with two main galleries displaying artefacts relating to Corsican traditions. There’s also an impressive citadel featuring a 19th-century barracks.
