Avis Sponsors Cape Town Cycle Tour for 7th year running

Avis Sponsors the 2019 Cycle Tour

Avis Rent a Car continues its partnership with one of South Africa’s most iconic cycle races, the annual Cape Town Cycle Tour, for the seventh year in a row, as the event gears up for its 41st running on 10 March 2019.
The partnership between these two well-loved South African brands is a perfect fit, with the Cape Town Cycle Tour drawing around 35 000 cyclists, with more than thousands of spectators along the route, and Avis providing the car-rental services and race support that help make the event a success.

Avis has been a car-rental partner of the event since 2013. The Avis sponsorship includes race lead vehicles, and other logistics vehicles including VIP transport, marshals and volunteers transport, media vehicles as well as sweep vehicles for breakdowns and stragglers at the back of the race.

This year also sees the return of an initiative that is becoming a popular feature of the race, as a team of Avis bike mechanics in branded Avis gear provide emergency bike repairs on the route. Avis launched this initiative in 2015 and it has since caught on, as participants enlist the help of Avis to help them overcome mechanical glitches.
Avis also provides easily accessible transport solutions for participants, fans and support teams during the race. Cyclists, as well as their friends and family can make a booking for the race at www.avis.co.za/cycletour.

“What a privilege it is to once again be sponsoring the Cape Town Cycle Tour,” said Rainer Gottschick: Chief Executive of Avis Rent a Car Southern Africa. “Avis has long supported the sport of cycling. As a carbon-neutral company, we are also proud to encourage sustainable mobility.”
The Cape Town Cycle Tour is an annual cycle race usually 109km long, and 2019 once again sees the race start from the Grand Parade in the heart of South Africa’s Mother City. The event forms part of the nine-day Lifecycle Week, beginning with the Mountain Bike and Junior events in the first weekend of March culminating in the staging of the Cycle Tour.
“The Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust is extremely proud to be partners with a company like Avis. It is only through partnerships like this that the Trust is able to maximise its efforts in raising much-needed funds for charitable beneficiaries” said David Bellairs: Director of Cape Town Cycle Tour.
With as many as 35 000 cyclists taking part, the tour is the world's largest individually timed cycle race.

Proceeds from the Cape Town Cycle Tour and events during Lifecycle Week go to the Pedal Power Association (PPA) and The Rotary Club of Claremont. More than R45 million has been distributed back into social upliftment and cycling development in the past five years through PPA and Rotary.
