Avis Rent a Car announces the launch of its BlackBerry reservations app, which allows customers to book through any Avis branch worldwide from their BlackBerry smartphones.

Avis chief executive, Wayne Duvenage says, “It is part of Avis’ vision to keep trying harder, and making the reservations step as convenient as possible for our customers forms part of this vision.”

The Avis Blackberry app will store the customer’s personal details securely, which means confidential information only needs to be entered once. Customers’ favourite locations are already saved for easy booking at these locations and only the available cars will then be displayed. Reservations can also be viewed and cancelled from the app. A smart search function has been included, which displays the nearest Avis branches.

Duvenage adds, “Avis has dedicated a lot of time and resources towards the development of mobile reservation apps, as we are seeing a big shift with customers requiring on-the-go facilities and functionality from service providers. We will continue to develop our mobile apps offering with the next release being for Android phones, scheduled to be available in December this year.”

The iPhone app is already available to South African users for free through the Apple App Store.

The South African based Avis Blackberry app will be available at no charge on the South Africa BlackBerry App World. The app can be adapted for international travel and bookings.
